TRCN Clarifies: No Directive Given To Certificate Holders For Qualifying Exam Rewriting....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) has denied allegations made by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) that the council mandated individuals possessing its certificates to retake the professional qualifying examination. Ajiboye clarified that a TRCN certificate is a one-time acquisition, emphasizing its lifelong validity. He explained that only the TRCN license requires renewal every three years, aligning with standard practices in other professions.

Babatunde had inaccurately attributed a certificate renewal policy to TRCN, expressing concerns about its potential to exacerbate the financial strain on Nigerian teachers and contribute to a shortage of educators, as some may struggle to renew their certificates.

Labelling the alleged policy as draconian and insensitive, Babatunde urged the council to release all withheld certificates and eliminate what he deemed an unjust system. He argued that the policy failed to consider the economic challenges faced by the average Nigerian student.

In response, Ajiboye clarified that TRCN’s recent policy pertains to the validity of Professional Qualifying Examination (PQE) results, not the renewal of certificates. He noted that individuals who passed the TRCN exam often delayed registering to collect their certificates. As a result, the new policy stipulates that TRCN PQE results are valid for one year, requiring successful candidates to register within that timeframe. Failure to do so would necessitate re-taking the examination.

Ajiboye emphasized the need for clarity, stating that the focus is on the PQE results’ validity, not the renewal of TRCN certificates. This clarification aims to address the misunderstanding surrounding TRCN’s recent policy adjustments and dispel concerns raised by NANS.
