LAGOS, August 31, 2023 – In what marks a significant milestone in Lagos‘ urban development, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu announced that the highly anticipated Blue Line Rail will commence commercial operations on Monday, September 4, 2023. The Blue Line Rail project symbolizes a monumental step towards achieving the vision of a fully interconnected Lagos. It’s not just about convenience; it’s about transforming the very essence of how residents navigate their city.
“The Blue Line Rail isn’t just a project. It’s a promise to every Lagosian that we’re dedicated to making their daily lives better, their commutes shorter, and their experiences in this city, richer,” Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed in his announcement.
From September 5, partial passenger operations will kick off, making the services available during the morning peak hours from 6:30 am to 10 am, and again during the afternoon peak from 4 pm to 9:30 pm. What’s more, within just two weeks from the launch, the frequency of trips is expected to increase from an initial 12 to an impressive 76 trips daily. The integration of the Lagos Cowry Card system is also in place to streamline the boarding process, emphasizing efficiency at every step. CONTINUE READING
Besides operational efficiency, safety and security have been pivotal in the rail’s design and implementation. Over 300 CCTV cameras have been installed across the entire rail line, ensuring a safe environment for all commuters. The presence of command and control centers at every station further bolsters this commitment to safety.
The Governor urged Lagosians to take ownership of the rail system. “This project belongs to every Lagosian. It’s essential that we all treat it with the respect and care it deserves. Vandalism, disturbances, or any acts that compromise the safety and functionality of the Blue Line Rail will not be tolerated,” he stressed.
This development is more than just a testament to modern urban planning; it showcases the forward-thinking, people-first approach of the current administration. As Lagos continues to evolve into a global megacity, initiatives like the Blue Line Rail confirm that its heart remains firmly with its people.
