Tribunal Tension Rises As APC Claims PDP Planning Protest In Edo
The Edo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raised alarm over an alleged plan by Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) supporters to stage a protest at the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal on Tuesday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
State APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe, issued a petition on Monday, urging security agencies, including the Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigerian Army, to be on high alert and prevent any disruption at the Office of the Attorney General.
“We call on security agencies to take necessary steps to prevent PDP supporters and their candidate, Asue Ighodalo, from disrupting proceedings at the Attorney General’s office,” the statement read.
The warning follows the tribunal’s decision to reserve judgment on the PDP’s petition challenging the outcome of the September 21, 2024, Edo governorship election. The three-member tribunal, led by Justice Wilfred Kpochi, postponed its ruling after lawyers presented their final arguments on Monday.
APC Rejects Alleged Attempt to Undermine Judiciary
Tenebe stressed that the APC would not tolerate any move to interfere with the judicial process or disrupt tribunal proceedings. He urged security agencies to take the alleged threat seriously and hold the protest organizers accountable.
“The judiciary must be allowed to function independently, free from intimidation. Any attempt to use protests to manipulate the tribunal’s decision will be strongly resisted,” he warned.
PDP Fires Back, Defends Planned Protest
Responding to APC’s claims, PDP Deputy National Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, dismissed the allegations as “propaganda” aimed at misleading the public.
He confirmed that the PDP planned a peaceful rally in Abuja but accused the APC of raising false alarms to suppress lawful demonstrations.
“The APC has turned into a propaganda machine. We all saw how they manipulated the Edo election, allocating votes arbitrarily. The same pattern was repeated in the Rivers LG election,” Osadolor asserted.
