CUPP Alleges Lagos Speaker Crisis Is A Political Distraction – What’s The Hidden Agenda?
The Conference of United Political Parties (CUPP) has labeled the ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly as a calculated distraction designed to divert attention from governance shortcomings.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The National Secretary of CUPP, Peter Ameh, made this assertion during an interview with Vanguard on Monday in Abuja.
Ameh dismissed the power struggle between Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Princess Mojisola Meranda as mere political theatrics, suggesting that the conflict is a ploy to shift public focus away from pressing governance concerns.
“The recent turmoil in the Lagos Assembly seems like a well-orchestrated attempt to mask the failures of governance,” he stated.
Tinubu’s Influence and the Political Power Play
Ameh questioned whether the battle between Obasa and Meranda posed any real challenge to President Bola Tinubu’s firm control over Lagos politics, which has remained unshaken since 2007—except in 2023, when Peter Obi defeated Tinubu in the state during the presidential election.
“It’s doubtful whether Obasa or Meranda’s actions could genuinely threaten Tinubu’s dominance in Lagos, considering his longstanding grip on the state’s political structure,” he noted.
Police Involvement Sparks Suspicions
The CUPP leader also raised concerns about the sudden involvement of the police in the crisis, hinting at a possible political agenda behind their intervention.
“The fact that the police are suddenly engaged in this dispute raises questions about its authenticity. This could be a carefully scripted event aimed at misleading the public, weakening the opposition, and shifting attention to unnecessary drama,” Ameh stated.
According to him, the Lagos Assembly crisis follows a pattern of diversionary tactics often used to manipulate public perception and deflect from critical governance failures.
“This entire episode resembles previous instances where political distractions were used to mask deeper issues. For example, the swift payment of sacked Lagos Water Corporation staff’s entitlements has been described as a diversion from the privatization agenda of Lagos water services,” he added.
A Call for Vigilance
Ameh urged Lagosians to critically analyze the motives behind the crisis and ensure that political games do not take precedence over their interests.
