The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted reports claiming the arrest and detention of social media influencer and activist, Martins Vincent Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
VeryDarkMan was reportedly apprehended on Friday, May 2, 2025, after he accompanied his mother to a GTBank branch to complain about an alleged unauthorized deduction from her account.
On Monday, a report surfaced suggesting that the EFCC was responsible for his arrest and detention.
In response, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale clarified in an interview with BBC News Pidgin on May 5, 2025, that the activist was taken into custody due to multiple allegations raised against him by petitioners. Oyewale explained, “We arrested him to respond to a series of allegations brought forward by several petitioners.”
When asked if the arrest was related to the incident at GTBank, Oyewale confirmed that the petitions came from different individuals and that the agency’s duty is to protect them.
Oyewale further assured that VeryDarkMan would be released once he meets his bail conditions and will be arraigned in court as required by law.
Despite this, the EFCC later took to its official account to debunk the report, labeling it as false.
In the meantime, a group of youths gathered in Abuja to protest the arrest and detention of VeryDarkMan, a well-known human rights advocate and social media personality.
