Former Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu, who served under former President Muhammadu Buhari, has dismissed claims that he actively lobbied for his recent appointment as the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Dave Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences in Ebonyi State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Shittu’s appointment by President Bola Tinubu, alongside other federal university heads and chairpersons, led to speculation that the appointments were a form of compensation for not being included in Tinubu’s ministerial list. However, Shittu refuted these rumors, stating, “I could not have lobbied to become pro-chancellor of the university.”

Reflecting on his career, Shittu emphasized his extensive experience: “I was a minister for four years. Before that, I had been commissioner twice at age 30, serving as Commissioner for Home Affairs, Information, and Culture in the larger Oyo State in 1983. In 2007, I became Attorney General of Oyo State before being appointed as a minister. So, I could not have lobbied.”

Shittu revealed that the appointment was unexpected but accepted it with gratitude. “I was looking for a more executive role where I could leverage my almost 45 years of political experience. But when this opportunity came, I embraced it and am committed to giving my best,” he said.

Addressing initial concerns about relocating to the South-East, Shittu admitted that negative reports about insecurity had made him apprehensive. However, his experience in Ebonyi State has been positive. “I had reservations about moving to the South-East, but Ebonyi has proven to be a beautiful and peaceful place. Anytime I visit for meetings, it feels like a homecoming,” he noted.

Expressing his satisfaction with the role, Shittu affirmed his commitment to the university’s growth, stating, “The university management has been highly cooperative, and I am determined to ensure that the institution progresses significantly.”
