Hushpuppi, currently serving an 11-year sentence, is accused of organizing a celebratory feast at Fort Dix, New Jersey, in honor of his friend and social media influencer, Tunde Adekunle, also known as Tunde Ednut, whose birthday took place on January 22, 2024.

Expressing their commitment to addressing the matter seriously, the prison facility informed the Nigerian online newspaper, Peoples Gazette, on February 1, that their investigative department would lead the inquiry to establish the veracity of the viral video.

The footage in question portrays an elaborate spread of various foods, including jollof rice, pasta, and soft drinks, within what appears to be a prison setting.

The voice purported to be Hushpuppi’s is heard saying, “Tunde Ednut, you can see that we are celebrating you in our own little way o. Fried rice is ready, Tunde Ednut birthday celebration. Jollof loading, pasta is here as you can see,” while displaying an array of delicacies on a white table.

The video also provides glimpses of a grey double bunk and a bed adorned with white sheets, heightening suspicions that the feast occurred within a U.S. jail.

Hushpuppi, aged 41, was convicted in 2022 for his involvement in a multi-million-dollar international fraud scheme. Initially apprehended in Dubai, he was extradited to the United States to face charges.

During the initial years of his incarceration, Abbas reportedly engaged in educational courses and actively participated in cleaning prison facilities in a bid to secure a reduced sentence. However, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Los Angeles dismissed his appeal on January 19, rejecting his plea for a review and reduction of his 11-year sentence based on his exhibited good behavior in prison.

The investigation into the viral video marks the latest development in Hushpuppi’s legal journey, further complicating his efforts for a potential sentence reduction.
