Speaking on Wednesday during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting organized by her committee in Abuja, Usman made the call in the presence of prominent figures such as Peter Obi, Governor Alex Otti, Datti Baba-Ahmed, and several elected Labour Party officials.
Usman applauded the Supreme Court for its recent judgment on the party’s leadership dispute, describing it as a pivotal moment for the Labour Party.
“I’m pleased to announce that the Supreme Court’s ruling marks a new beginning for our party. This landmark judgment affirms the values of truth, integrity, and responsible leadership. It sets the tone for the Labour Party’s rebirth and reinforces our commitment to these ideals, not just to our members but to the nation as a whole,” she said.
She described the judgment as a victory for the rule of law, good governance, and everyone who stands for truth and sincerity of purpose.
Senator Usman urged all aggrieved party members to lay aside their differences and unite for the common good of the Labour Party.
“I want to emphasize that unity, team spirit, social justice, and reconciliation are core values of our great party. The Supreme Court has spoken, and now is the time to sheath our swords and move forward.
“I call on every member of our party, regardless of their stance on the court’s verdict, to put aside personal ambitions and grievances. Let us come together to build a party that truly represents ordinary Nigerians—a party that ensures the dividends of democracy reach every citizen. This is the time to act. This is the time to strengthen the opposition and defend our democracy. Nigeria is our collective responsibility,” she stated.
Senator Usman, who also served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance, extended a direct invitation to the Abure-led NWC, urging them to work with her committee in rebuilding the party and Nigeria’s democratic space.
“We urge the former NWC members, all Labour Party supporters at home and abroad, and the Obidient Movement worldwide to join us in rebuilding our party and restoring democratic values in Nigeria,” she added.
