Speaking during the ongoing National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Obi clarified that he had never discussed exiting the party with any individual or group. He insisted that all decisions concerning the party’s direction must be made collectively, with the full involvement of stakeholders.
“I’ve not told anybody that I’m leaving the Labour Party,” Obi firmly stated, putting an end to the speculation.
A Rallying Call Amid National Crisis
Obi seized the moment to urge his party members not to succumb to fear amid Nigeria’s worsening socio-economic conditions, which he described as dire.
“Do not fear anybody. Those who were afraid yesterday didn’t make any difference. We must speak up when things go wrong. Nigeria is collapsing—the data and indices are clear—people are sinking deeper into poverty every day,” he said.
He stressed the importance of unity within the party, reminding members that the Labour Party must operate like a true family.
“This party must work as a family. It’s not about Peter Obi’s decision—it’s about all of us. No one should be excluded. Our mission is to build a party rooted in fairness and justice.”
Looking ahead to the 2027 general elections, Obi emphasized the importance of fielding competent, loyal candidates at all levels—from the National Assembly to the Presidency.
“We must correct past errors. Anyone seeking to fly the Labour Party’s flag must not only be competent but also a loyal and dedicated member—not just someone looking for a temporary platform,” he concluded.
