Video Footage Shows Nigerians In Massive Crowds, Desperate To Acquire Customs Palliative Rice

On Friday, the Nigeria Customs Office in Yaba witnessed disorder and frustration as the government’s well-intentioned distribution of 25kg bags of rice resulted in chaos. The Comptroller General of the NCS, Mr. Adewale Adeniyi, had outlined a supposedly organized process for the sale, involving the submission of a form with detailed applicant information, including the National Identification Number (NIN), and the generation of a barcode for collecting the commodity.

However, the eagerness to secure a bag of rice led to unfortunate incidents, with individuals losing their belongings in the process. A disillusioned individual, who arrived at 6 am, expressed regret, stating, “I regret coming here today. I came here with shoes and a wristwatch, but everything was gone, and I didn’t even get the rice to buy. This is just suffering for nothing; in my life, I won’t do it again.”

This sentiment was echoed by others, including a student named Abdulramon, who arrived at 10 am and, by 2:25 pm, had not been able to obtain a bag of rice. Abdulramon blamed the disorder on people not adhering to instructions, stating, “The queue was moving until people scattered it. If Nigerians had followed the instructions to stay in line, we wouldn’t be experiencing this. If you are not strong, you cannot come here. It’s survival of the fittest.
