In a video posted on her Instagram page on Sunday, the cleric was seen kneeling on the pulpit as she directly addressed the minister.
Omakwu said she was not in a position to confront the FCT Minister but was speaking as a concerned mother in the nation.
She stated, “I cannot fight the minister of the FCT. I cannot. But I go on my knees as a mother in this land that Jabi Lake Recreation Centre should not be given to anybody.
“That is where people go for exercise. That is where people sell. That is where people meet, interact, and even get married.
“That is where people go to watch games. That is where young people gather. I beg you, Mr Minister, in the name of God, as a mother, please do not allocate that land to anyone.”
She further expressed concern about the shrinking access to public recreational spaces in Abuja, noting that several once-open areas have gradually become restricted.
“I can’t fight you, but I am pleading in the name of God Almighty that this land should be left for everyone. Please heed our call,” she added.
Praise for Wike’s Projects
Despite her appeal, Omakwu also acknowledged and commended Wike for ongoing infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory.
She said, “I want to thank you for all the highways you have built around the city. You have made my journeys much easier. Thank you for the other things you are doing. But for this piece of land, I beg you, let it remain for public use.”
Her remarks come months after the FCTA signed agreements with private firms to develop the Jabi Lake area into a modern recreational and tourism hub.
In February, the administration entered into a partnership with Suburban Broadband Limited and Akida Hills Limited to upgrade the facility as part of efforts to boost tourism and economic activity in Abuja.
Wike had earlier stated that the project was aimed at transforming the capital into a more attractive destination for leisure and investment.
