WAEC Reacts To Rumours Of Major Changes In 2026 WASSCE Subjects

The Council made this clarification in a statement issued by its Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adeshina, who described the viral reports as false, misleading, and unfounded.
“We wish to categorically distance ourselves from this baseless assumption and the false information being circulated on the matter,” Adeshina stated.
She emphasized that WAEC does not design or modify school curricula, noting that such responsibilities lie solely with the Federal Government of Nigeria.
“The introduction or modification of any curriculum in Nigeria is the exclusive function of the Federal Government. WAEC operates strictly within the legal and operational frameworks established by its host country,” she explained.
Adeshina further noted that the Council’s role is to implement government-approved education policies through credible and transparent assessments.
Reassuring candidates and parents, WAEC reiterated its commitment to fairness, integrity, and professionalism in the conduct of the 2026 WASSCE.
“All candidates participating in the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates will be given equal and fair opportunities during the assessment process,” the statement affirmed.
The Council also cautioned schools, parents, and the general public to ignore unverified online reports and rely solely on official information from WAEC.
“Schools, stakeholders, and the general public are advised to disregard the misleading claims and depend only on official communications from the Council for accurate examination guidelines regarding WASSCE (SC) 2026,” Adeshina added.
