The response of Funke Akeredolu Aruna, the niece of the late Governor of Ondo State, to criticism from the ex-first lady, Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has been swift. Betty had taken to her Instagram account to condemn Aruna’s support for the governorship ambition of the current governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.

Aruna, who allegedly had a previous rift with Aiyedatiwa before her husband’s death, was labeled as “shameless” by Betty for endorsing the Ondo State Governor. In a quick counter, Aruna expressed her disappointment with the late governor’s widow, stating, “I happened to be one of the assistant conveners of Orimisan Lucky Aiyedatiwa women in Ondo state, a supporting group for his reelection.”

She explained that her picture was taken during a program, and she believes it was the opposition that circulated it to tarnish her image. Aruna clarified her allegiance to Aiyedatiwa and highlighted the political nature of the conflicts between her late uncle and the current governor. She emphasized that Lucky Aiyedatiwa provided a befitting burial for her uncle, suggesting that the criticism from the late governor’s wife may be rooted in her non-support for the present governor.
