We Will Be The Next Targets!’ – Lawmaker Speaks Out On VIP Police Withdrawal (Video)

Speaking on the Senate floor during Wednesday’s plenary, Wamakko warned that removing police security from VIPs would leave them vulnerable and make them prime targets for criminals.
The senator’s remarks came in response to President Tinubu’s recent directive, which ordered the immediate redeployment of police officers previously assigned to VIPs, as part of a wider reshuffle of security personnel.
According to a statement from the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the decision was reached during a high-level security meeting with the Service Chiefs in Abuja. Onanuga explained that the move seeks to return the police to their “core duties” and strengthen security presence in communities experiencing high levels of crime.
Under the new arrangement, VIPs requiring armed escorts must now apply through the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
However, Wamakko, the former Governor of Sokoto State, argued that this policy poses serious risks. “I disagree with withdrawing police protection from VIPs; doing so only creates another danger, as these individuals will become the next targets,” he said.
On the broader issue of insecurity, the senator emphasized that the government must take decisive action against terrorists and bandits rather than negotiating or paying ransoms, which only encourages further criminal activity.
