She expressed her views in a Facebook post days after being publicly acknowledged by United States President Donald Trump.
During the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, DC, Trump described Tinubu as a “very respected woman” while addressing an audience that included members of the US Congress, religious leaders and international dignitaries. He highlighted her while speaking on faith, leadership and global religious freedom.
Reacting to the recognition, the First Lady lamented what she described as a widening gap between the respect Nigerian leaders receive internationally and how they are treated at home.
She wrote that many Nigerian leaders are honoured abroad, yet are undervalued by their own people because of hatred and narratives promoted by political interests, which she said have influenced public perception and hardened hearts.
Tinubu also criticised what she described as a culture of ridicule and online harassment directed at public office holders, warning that such behaviour weakens national cohesion and progress.
According to her, leaders are bullied, insulted, cursed and publicly mocked, with their mistakes amplified and weaponised across social media platforms.
She stressed that Nigeria’s true strength lies in unity, mutual respect and collective responsibility, urging citizens to support their leaders rather than undermine them.
Tinubu called on Nigerians to work together with their leaders in a spirit of cooperation and shared purpose to build a stronger and more prosperous nation.
