Why INEC Couldn’t Call Politicians To Order – Galadima Reveals Explosive Details
A chieftain of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima, has criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for failing to rein in politicians engaging in early campaigns.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time, Galadima argued that although INEC has the constitutional authority to caution political players, it has been rendered powerless because “those who pay the piper dictate the tune.”
He noted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was the first to flout the rules by kicking off early campaigns.
“In the last six months, I have repeatedly raised concerns about INEC’s inability to act,” Galadima said. “Unfortunately, it has become clear that they cannot call politicians to order, since the government of the day set the precedent. This raises serious doubts about INEC’s neutrality as an umpire in our political system.”
Meanwhile, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called for the full enforcement of provisions in the Electoral Act regarding the electronic transmission of results in the 2027 general elections. The opposition party warned that it would resist any attempt to manipulate the process or undermine the will of Nigerians.
Section 64 (4), (5), and (6) of the Electoral Act 2022 requires election results to be recorded and transmitted directly from polling units using the Smart Card Reader (SCR) or any other electronic device approved by INEC.
INEC previously admitted that “glitches” hampered the real-time transmission of the 2023 presidential election results, sparking nationwide outrage.
At a press conference in Abuja on Monday, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, condemned what he described as “institutional manipulation” of past elections and urged INEC to restore credibility to the electoral process.
