The Solidarity Centre is affiliated with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations. Edhebru noted that cultural norms often define women primarily as nurturers, which can impede their leadership ambitions.

She emphasized that the workshop’s goal was to empower women and prepare them for leadership despite these obstacles. ā€œThis training is part of a broader initiative aimed at equipping more women with essential skills,ā€ she stated.

Edhebru underscored the importance of women aspiring to leadership roles and developing their capabilities. She encouraged participants to prioritize their lives, manage their time effectively, and build relationships to balance work and personal commitments. Women were urged to seek knowledge, expand their networks, and cultivate resilience to overcome challenges.

Workshop participant Nwali Chinenye advocated for women to develop self-esteem and approach challenges with confidence. She highlighted that learning from mistakes and making consistent daily efforts can lead to significant achievements.

Another participant, Madukpe Solomon from the Federation of Informal Workers Organisation of Nigeria, stressed the importance of supporting women facing gender-based violence and harassment. Stanley Ominyi, Branch Secretary of FIWON, emphasized that men should advocate for women when needed, calling for gender equality in all spheres.

Dr. Christopher Johnson, Regional Programme Director for Africa at the Centre, underscored the urgent need for movements toward equity between men and women and for fair treatment for all. He pointed out that the workshop aimed to tackle gender-based violence, an issue critical to occupational safety and health, and stressed the importance of respecting all individuals, particularly female colleagues.

The workshop saw participation from about 40 individuals, both men and women.
