The human rights group has justified its decision based on the fact that electoral violence in Kogi State has resulted in loss of life and property destruction. Comrade Steve Aluko, the Director General of CLO, revealed this during an announcement in Jos, Plateau State.

He stated, “Yahaya Bello must be held accountable for all the violence that has occurred under his leadership, as he is the top security official of the state. We are also advocating for visa bans against those responsible for the political violence in Kogi and have urged the United States of America, Europe, China, and other Asian countries to take appropriate action as a deterrent to others.”

The CLO leader emphasized that “elections in Nigeria have become a global concern that will attract international attention and reactions,” indicating that any offenses committed within the country’s states cannot go unpunished and will not be isolated.

He noted that recent attacks have been primarily directed at party officials, supporters, and campaign offices of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), with political rallies disrupted by unruly individuals.

Aluko called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene swiftly in the ongoing electoral violence in Kogi State, expressing concern that failure to act might suggest the complicity of either the President or the All Progressive Congress (APC), under whose platform Governor Bello governs, in the situation.
