You Are A Liar!’ — Fubara And Rivers Assembly Clash Resumes In Fiery Exchange (VIDEO)
Tensions in Rivers State politics escalated sharply on Thursday as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, publicly labeled Governor Siminalayi Fubara a “liar” and accused him of “looking for trouble,” alleging that the governor consistently misleads the public and circumvents due process.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
This comes a day after Governor Fubara dismissed speculations of a rift between him and federal or state lawmakers, insisting that claims of strained relations were unfounded. He made the comments during the commissioning of the extended and dualised 28.4-kilometre Ahoada–Omoku Road, assuring that arrangements had already been made for a meeting with the lawmakers. Fubara added that his predecessor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, along with elder statesman Ferdinand Alabraba and other leaders, would convene the session.
At a press conference in Port Harcourt, Amaewhule directly challenged Fubara’s assertion that he was willing to cooperate with the Assembly. The Speaker alleged that the governor has repeatedly refused to submit the 2025 budget to the House for scrutiny and approval, in defiance of legislative and constitutional requirements.
Amaewhule claimed that the governor is currently spending state funds without legislative appropriation, describing the action as unconstitutional. He recalled a meeting in which the Assembly urged Fubara to provide a budget breakdown, only for the governor to reportedly respond that he would not comply. “We remained silent for months hoping he would do the right thing,” the Speaker said.
The Speaker also accused Fubara of awarding contracts to friends and loyalists without legislative approval, alleging that some recipients were involved in the burning of the Assembly complex during the peak of the political crisis and had publicly celebrated it on social media.
“It is the Governor who has failed to uphold the terms of our agreement. This is not the first time he has agreed and then reneged,” Amaewhule stated.
Amaewhule further challenged Fubara’s claim that reconciliation meetings had not taken place, insisting that FCT Minister Nyesom Wike had convened multiple sessions in both Abuja and Port Harcourt. “How many meetings have I mentioned? How many more does he want the FCT Minister to call?” the Speaker asked.
He explained that the Assembly initially remained silent following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, aiming to restore peace. However, Fubara’s “outburst” compelled them to respond publicly.
Amaewhule also revealed that preliminary findings from the Assembly’s review of the recent emergency rule period indicated that the outgoing administration left over ₦600 billion in government accounts. He affirmed that lawmakers would continue to investigate state expenditures during that period.
