In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, maintained that Abdulrahman Mohammed remains the legitimate National Chairman of the party.

His response followed an earlier declaration by the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT), led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, which announced that it had assumed control of the party’s leadership based on a recent Supreme Court ruling.

Wabara had argued that the court’s decision created a leadership gap by nullifying the November 2025 PDP National Convention in Ibadan, which produced the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC). He also claimed the ruling upheld the suspension of key party officials and invalidated decisions taken by them, including the appointment of Abdulrahman Mohammed and the outcomes of the party’s March 2026 convention in Abuja.

However, Jungudo Mohammed rejected this interpretation, stating that the Supreme Court ruling only voided the Ibadan convention and did not affect the current NWC or validate any suspensions. He stressed that issues relating to suspension or expulsion were never part of the case before the courts.

He insisted that the PDP’s leadership structure remains intact and fully operational under Abdulrahman Mohammed and National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, adding that there has been no disruption warranting a takeover by the BoT.

The spokesperson also accused a rival group of misrepresenting the court’s judgment to mislead the public, noting that the ruling is a public document that can be verified.

He further argued that Wabara no longer has the authority to act as BoT chairman, claiming his tenure has expired. According to him, the only recognised BoT leadership is now under Mao Ohuabunwa.

Mohammed emphasised that the PDP constitution does not empower the BoT to assume the responsibilities of the NWC or take over party leadership. He advised Wabara to refrain from issuing statements on behalf of the party and warned that such actions would not be tolerated.

He also urged the media to avoid portraying the PDP as divided, insisting that there are no factions within the party and describing the opposing camp as a rejected group.
