Mark, along with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and ex-governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), among others, held a meeting in Abuja last week. During the gathering, they called on PDP members to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in forming a coalition to “rescue Nigeria” in the next general election.

Reading the communique after the meeting, Mark said:

“The meeting encourages all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition. All coalition partners must unite on the issues of national unity, democracy, security, the economy, and the political will to eradicate corruption entrenched in our institutions.”

In response, Bode George, during an interview with Punch, described Mark’s comments as “extremely disgraceful” and “deeply disappointing.”

“I am ashamed of David Mark’s statement urging PDP members to join the ADC. It’s beyond disgraceful—it’s heartbreaking. How can you abandon the house that birthed and nurtured you simply because of internal conflicts?” George said.

He didn’t hold back further, adding:

“This isn’t just arrogance—it’s disgraceful and shows a lack of character. David Mark, a retired Army General, is behaving like a rolling stone. I was present when our party chose him as the Senate President nominee. Ironically, he chaired the convention that triggered today’s crisis by disregarding the foundational guidelines.”

George labeled Mark, Atiku, and their allies as ungrateful and accused them of betraying the legacy of PDP’s founding fathers.

“They are shamelessly dancing on the graves of those who sacrificed everything for the PDP. For Mark to say the PDP is now a shadow of its former self is unacceptable. He has no moral right to malign the party. Unlike civilians, we military men were trained to respect structure and tradition. What example are they setting for the next generation? He chaired the very convention that disrupted the party—he helped create the shadow he now condemns.”
