Christmas is still ahead on the calendar, but in Benin City, the feeling has already arrived.
From the first handshake to the last bag of rice lifted, Oredo Federal Constituency wore joy like a garment as Esosa Iyawe transformed the season into a living testimony of leadership with a human face.
This was not a quiet handout. It was a Christmas carnival of gratitude.
Carols mixed with laughter. Prayers floated freely. Women clutched rice bags with smiles that said relief had finally knocked. Men raised hands skyward, offering spontaneous blessings for a man many described simply as “God-sent.”
Over 500 bags of 25kg rice, 200 bags of 50kg rice, and hundreds of well-processed chickens moved from trucks into waiting hands, not as charity, but as shared celebration. Every item premium. Every distribution orderly. Every beneficiary treated with dignity.
From party executives to ward leaders, community stakeholders to journalists, the spread was wide, deliberate, and inclusive. No scrambling. No chaos. Just structure, respect, and seasonal warmth.
And then the prayers.
“May God strengthen him.”
“May his days be long.”
“May he never forget the people.”
Some prayed openly. Others whispered quietly. But one thing was clear: this was more than food. It was reassurance. It was presence. It was leadership that shows up when it matters.
In a season when many are counting losses, Oredo counted blessings. In a time of uncertainty, hope found a voice, and it sounded like laughter echoing through Benin City streets.
Christmas came early, and it came bearing a familiar name.
When leadership understands timing, the people rejoice.
