The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced that it has successfully uploaded the name of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) nomination portal.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The disclosure was made on Monday by the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, who also confirmed that the NDC has challenged a recent court ruling by filing both an appeal and an application for a stay of execution.

Dickson stated that copies of the legal filings had already been served on the INEC Chairman and the electoral commission, urging the commission to act in line with the law.

According to him, the party has been granted access to INEC’s candidate nomination portal, enabling it to begin submitting the names of candidates who emerged from its primary elections.

He revealed that both his own name and that of the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, have already been uploaded, while the vice-presidential candidate’s details are expected to be submitted after the completion of the required documentation. He added that the upload of other candidates’ names is also underway.

Dickson maintained that the NDC remains a legally registered political party that has participated in every stage of the electoral process. He noted that the party had concluded its primary elections across the country under the supervision of INEC officials, producing candidates for various elective offices.

He explained that the only outstanding step is the administrative submission of candidates’ names through the commission’s online portal.

The former Bayelsa State governor also assured party members that there was no cause for concern, pointing out that the NDC was still operating within INEC’s official timetable. According to him, submissions for National Assembly candidates remain open until the 11th of next month, while the deadline for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates is July 17.

Dickson used the opportunity to appreciate all aspirants who contested the party’s primaries, acknowledging that while the process was not without challenges, efforts had been made to resolve grievances arising from the exercise.

He disclosed that reconciliation efforts have already commenced to unite members after the primaries, assuring unsuccessful aspirants that they would remain integral to the party’s campaign structure, committees and grassroots mobilisation ahead of future elections.

Congratulating all candidates who emerged from the primaries, Dickson reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s multi-party democracy. He warned against actions capable of undermining democratic institutions and insisted that the country’s democratic gains must be preserved.

He also expressed appreciation to Nigerians for their support and prayers, while commending INEC for what he described as its professionalism in handling recent political developments, including the registration of the NDC and two other political parties in compliance with court orders.

Dickson further noted the commission’s decision to oppose legal efforts aimed at deregistering some opposition parties, as well as its recognition of the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under David Mark following a court directive.

While acknowledging that institutions such as the judiciary, electoral commission and security agencies are not without shortcomings, he stressed the need for political leaders to protect their neutrality in the interest of Nigeria’s democracy.

He concluded by expressing confidence that the judiciary would fairly determine the party’s appeal, noting that all necessary legal processes had been initiated and that the matter now rests before the courts.
