The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued candidate nomination portal access codes to nine registered political parties, allowing them to begin uploading the names of their candidates for the 2027 general elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Among the parties that have reportedly received the credentials are the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

The portal will be used to submit the names of candidates contesting the presidential, governorship, Senate and House of Representatives elections. However, governorship candidates from Kogi and Osun states are exempt from the current process because both states operate off-cycle governorship elections.

An INEC official, who requested anonymity because they were not authorised to speak publicly on the matter, dismissed reports alleging that the NDC had been denied access to the commission’s online nomination platform.

The official described the claim as inaccurate, insisting that the electoral body had no reason to withhold access from any duly registered political party.

According to the source, the NDC was among the political parties that had already received the necessary credentials to upload the names of its candidates.

The clarification comes after officials of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, which is currently challenging legal efforts aimed at deregistering the party, raised concerns over access to the portal.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, had claimed that when NDC representatives visited the commission to obtain their access code, they were informed that INEC would respond to them later. He argued that any delay in submitting the party’s candidates should not be attributed to the NDC.

Responding to the claims, the INEC source maintained that the commission had handled the process fairly and without discrimination, ensuring equal treatment for all qualified political parties.

The official further disclosed that additional political parties were expected to receive their portal credentials before the end of the working day, increasing the total number of parties with access to about 13.

The commission also urged the public to ignore reports suggesting that any registered political party would be deliberately denied access to the candidate nomination portal, reaffirming its commitment to conducting a transparent and inclusive electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
