According to Naija News, PDP Publicity Secretary Kennedy Peretei made this allegation in a statement on Saturday titled, “National Hunger Protest: Aiyedatiwa is Merely Playing to the Gallery.”

The opposition party also criticized President Bola Tinubu’s administration, attributing the protests to a lack of sensitivity towards the people’s hardships. PDP claimed that while Aiyedatiwa has not accounted for the N5 billion allocated by the Federal Government as palliative funds, he has been using state resources to bribe residents and deter them from protesting.

The statement noted, “The PDP asserts that the protests could have been avoided if the APC government under President Bola Tinubu had been more attuned to the people’s suffering. Consequently, the administration should be held accountable for the resulting casualties and trauma.”

The party also condemned Governor Aiyedatiwa for allegedly using state funds to bribe individuals in Akure to prevent protests, despite the state’s pressing need for such demonstrations. The statement further criticized Aiyedatiwa for failing to account for the N5 billion palliative funds and noted that the state’s monthly federal allocations, averaging N10 billion since December 2023, have had little impact.
