The council has given the committee 48 hours to complete its review and make recommendations. These recommendations will guide the council’s decision on whether to reinstate the expelled students.

Earlier reports indicated that the students were expelled after a protest on May 9, which erupted in response to the arrest of some students by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a nearby community. During the protest, the Staff Club on campus was attacked, leading to significant property damage.

Council Chairman Taiwo Olaiya, speaking after the council’s first meeting, emphasized the importance of hearing the students’ side of the story. He noted that the council aims to resolve the matter fairly and address other pressing issues such as pending staff promotions.

Olaiya also highlighted plans to improve relations between the institution and the local community, aiming to foster a more harmonious environment at the polytechnic.
