The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has reassured Nigerians that security forces are closing in on notorious bandit leader Bello Turji, whose capture is imminent. General Musa described Turji as a power-hungry criminal but emphasized that it is only a matter of time before he is arrested.

Speaking at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, General Musa highlighted ongoing collaboration between the military, other security agencies, and state governments to protect communities from Turji’s activities, including reports of him imposing levies on local residents.

He urged communities to assist security forces by providing valuable information that could lead to Turji’s capture, stressing that public cooperation is crucial in maintaining peace and stability.

“Turji is a deranged individual who thrives on the illusion of power, but we are on his trail, and his arrest is inevitable,” General Musa stated. “We need everyone’s support to prevent these criminals from moving freely within our communities. Do not aid them or provide intelligence on troop movements. This is a key challenge we face.”

He further explained the complexity of combating non-state actors like Turji, who operate within communities and blend in, making it harder for security forces to identify them. “In asymmetric warfare, the enemy often hides in plain sight, and without the support of the community, the fight becomes even more difficult.”

General Musa reaffirmed the military’s commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in Nigeria, calling on all Nigerians, including the media, to work together in the effort.
