In a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Chukwudi Nelson, Governor Fubara detailed that the operation, reportedly led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), occurred around 1 AM on Friday. He stated, “The rogue policemen attempted to breach the gates and the strongroom of the Commission to abscond with sensitive electoral materials designated for Saturday’s local government elections in the State.”
The governor’s strong condemnation of the police’s actions has sparked outrage among residents. In response, groups of Rivers State men have mobilized in large numbers, taking to the streets to protest. They are issuing stern warnings to police officers, insisting that they keep their distance from the Local Government elections scheduled for tomorrow.
