Soludo Issues Warning: Traders Who Obey Sit-At-Home Will Face Shop ClosuresAnambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has issued a stern warning to traders complying with the sit-at-home order initiated by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), threatening to seal their shops. The sit-at-home directive, which began in 2021 to protest the extraordinary rendition of IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu, has continued to disrupt business activities across the Southeast.

The fear of violent enforcement has kept markets, plazas, schools, banks, and other businesses closed every Monday. However, during an inspection tour of the Onitsha Main Market on Monday, Soludo expressed disappointment over the number of closed shops and plazas.

Visiting the largest market in West Africa, Soludo assessed the level of business activity amidst the lingering sit-at-home order. He warned that traders or businesses failing to open on Mondays would face severe penalties, including having their shops sealed for up to one month. He stressed that continuous Monday closures could harm the local economy, driving customers to other regions.

The governor assured traders of adequate security and urged them to resume full operations. “I am here to ensure that your shops are open. From now on, every Monday, the Main Market must be open for business,” Soludo said. “If you fail to open, your shop will be sealed for one week, or even one month. When you are ready to open, it must be from Monday through Saturday.
