According to Vanguard, in the early hours of March 14, 2025, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 15th Field Engineers Regiment in Topo Town, Badagry, allegedly invaded the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (Eko Disco) Badagry Injection Substation, abducting two employees.

The Executive Director of Research and Advocacy at the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED), Sunday Oduntan, claimed that the soldiers forcefully took a Distribution System Operator (DSO) and a Proton Security Officer to their barracks, where they were assaulted before being released around 4 a.m.

“Their grievance was poor electricity supply to their barracks over the past week, despite their Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. S. Lawan, being formally informed about the ongoing Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) upgrade in Agbara,” Oduntan stated.

He added that attempts were made to restore power, but the feeder tripped due to excessive load.

This attack mirrors a previous incident involving Nigerian Air Force personnel from the Ikeja Base in Lagos, who reportedly assaulted staff of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (Ikeja Electric) after power to the base was disconnected. That altercation resulted in vandalism at Ikeja Electric’s head office and the brutalization of its employees.
