Zamfara In Mourning: Six Community Guards Gunned Down In Another Bandit Assault

The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, March 22, 2025, in Anka Local Government Area. Reports indicate that the slain security operatives had just completed a successful joint operation with the Nigerian Army, during which several bandits were neutralized. However, as they were returning, they fell into an ambush by the assailants, resulting in the loss of ten lives.

Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, confirmed the attack in a statement on his verified Facebook page, written in Hausa. He disclosed that the victims were part of a security team that had raided bandit hideouts before being ambushed near the Bagega area.

Governor Lawal further stated that, in addition to the ten fatalities, three individuals remain missing—two CPG members and one vigilante.

“I received reports that gunmen ambushed some members of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG) in Anka Local Government. This happened after security forces and CPG operatives, led by the Nigerian Army, successfully attacked bandit hideouts, neutralizing several criminals and recovering weapons,” he stated.

“On their way back, the bandits ambushed them at Bagega, opening fire and killing six members of the Community Protection Guards and four vigilantes. Their burials were conducted on Sunday morning.

“Three individuals are still missing—two CPG members and one vigilante. Upon hearing the news, I immediately ordered medical assistance for the injured and relief support for the families of the deceased.

“I pray for the repose of the souls of those who paid the supreme sacrifice to protect their communities. May God comfort their families and bring an end to the security crisis in Zamfara, the North, and Nigeria as a whole,” the governor added.

Zamfara remains one of the most affected states in the North-West and North-Central regions, as banditry continues to claim lives and displace residents. Despite ongoing security efforts, the attacks persist.
