The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has expressed disappointment over the lack of financial support from elected lawmakers of the party, accusing them of neglecting the party’s growth.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Abure revealed that since their election in 2023, none of the lawmakers have made any financial contributions to the party. He voiced his frustration during a town hall meeting organized by the Lagos State chapter of the party.
He also warned that those attempting to establish parallel structures within the party would face severe consequences. The statement, issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, was made public in Abuja on Friday.
Abure urged members of the Obidient movement to officially register as party members to participate in the upcoming congresses scheduled for June and July 2025. He emphasized that the Labour Party has only one legitimate structure, dismissing any other as counterfeit.
Addressing the relationship between the party and its elected officials, Abure lamented the lack of respect and financial commitment from the lawmakers, stating that the responsibility of running the party still falls on the leadership. Despite having six senators, about 30 House of Representatives members, and numerous House of Assembly members, Abure disclosed that none of them had contributed even a kobo to the party at the national level since their election.
He also pointed out that while many lawmakers seek control over their constituencies, they fail to cooperate with the party or offer support, which he deemed unfair.
Furthermore, Abure promised to address grievances from Lagos State party members, urging them to set aside past differences stemming from the 2023 elections and focus on the future. He reassured members with genuine cases that they would receive special consideration for the 2027 general elections.
