The Chairperson of the Labour Party (LP) Caretaker Committee, Nenadi Usman, has dared the factional National Chairman, Julius Abure, to follow through on his threat to expose the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and Abia State Governor Alex Otti.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Abure had earlier vowed to reveal damaging information about Obi and Otti, claiming that by the time he was done, their reputations would be in tatters.

However, appearing on Channels Television on Monday, Usman threw down the gauntlet.

“I challenge him to go ahead and expose us. If he has anything concrete, he should stop talking and act,” she said.

Usman also revealed that the party has substantial records of Abure’s activities, some of which are already under police investigation.

“There are many allegations against him, which is why those affected have gone to the police. An investigation is ongoing, and soon the public will hear more,” she added.

She criticized the ongoing leadership crisis in the LP, calling it a threat to internal democracy.

“A healthy democracy requires a strong opposition. But when the opposition begins to align with the ruling party, democracy itself is endangered — and that’s where we are today,” Usman noted.

According to her, Abure’s tenure as national chairman had expired, prompting INEC to instruct the party to fill the leadership vacuum.

“Abure and his National Working Committee had exceeded their tenure, and that’s why during a political party leaders’ meeting, INEC asked him and his secretary to step out,” she said.

She further stated that although Abure obtained a court ruling compelling INEC to recognize him, the Supreme Court eventually ruled that the lower courts had no jurisdiction to declare him chairman.

“The Supreme Court ruled clearly that Abure’s term had ended. Justice Inyang Okoro, who delivered the judgment, emphasized that political leaders must not cling to power beyond their mandate,” Usman said.

She also pointed out that Abure’s current recognition on INEC’s website is by court order, not through democratic election.

“Party leaders should emerge through democratic processes, not judicial shortcuts,” she stressed.
