The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has firmly refuted claims that its Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, held a covert meeting with two South-South governors just 48 hours before their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The allegation was made by Paul Ibe, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Ibe alleged that Olukoyede and the Solicitor General met privately with both a former and a sitting South-South governor at a government lodge shortly before their defection to the ruling party. The two governors involved were Delta State’s current Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, and his predecessor, Ifeanyi Okowa, who both joined the APC in April 2025.

Responding on Friday, the EFCC issued a sharply worded statement, describing the allegations as “outrageous” and “entirely fictitious.” The commission insisted the claims were not only baseless but also a deliberate attempt to smear the image of its Chairman.

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is appalled by the unfounded allegations made by Mr. Paul Ibe, the spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, alleging that Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede secretly met with an unnamed politician,” the statement read.

The commission reaffirmed that Olukoyede has consistently maintained a non-partisan stance and underscored his commitment to keeping the EFCC free of political interference.

“Mr. Olukoyede has repeatedly stated in public forums that he is apolitical, and the EFCC operates with zero tolerance for political bias,” the agency added.

The EFCC concluded by urging the public to ignore what it described as a product of “Paul Ibe’s imagination.”
