The Plateau State Police Command has firmly dismissed widespread rumours of a planned bomb attack targeting the University of Jos (UniJos) and other parts of the Jos metropolis, describing the claims as baseless and unsupported by any credible intelligence.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The speculation gained traction on social media after the circulation of a memo, allegedly issued by the university’s security division and reportedly signed by the Acting Chief Security Officer, warning of a potential bombing within the university community. The memo was dated July 4, 2025.

Reacting promptly, the Commissioner of Police in Plateau State, CP Emmanuel Adesina, assured the public that no credible bomb threat had been verified by the Police. However, he stressed that the command is treating the matter with utmost seriousness.

To ensure public safety, CP Adesina directed the immediate deployment of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Unit—commonly known as the Anti-Bomb Squad—to thoroughly sweep the UniJos campus and other key locations within Jos. Additional bomb technicians, intelligence officers, and tactical patrol units have also been stationed at strategic flashpoints across the city to strengthen existing security operations.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Alfred Alabo, residents were urged to remain calm, remain vigilant, and promptly report any suspicious activity or individuals to the nearest police station or security agency.

CP Adesina reiterated the Police Command’s commitment to proactive and community-based policing, noting that collaboration with the public remains critical to maintaining peace and order.

“We call on the peace-loving citizens of Plateau to continue their daily activities without fear. Though the threat remains unconfirmed, our personnel are on high alert and fully prepared to respond to any incident. Your safety is our top priority,” Adesina assured.

The Police also warned against the spread of unverified information capable of inciting public panic or disrupting social harmony, reaffirming their resolve to safeguard lives and maintain security across the state.
