Speaking on Thursday at the NNPCL headquarters in Abuja while hosting a delegation of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), led by its President, Comrade Festus Osifo, Ojulari disclosed that his “crime” was pushing through sweeping reforms in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to revive the country’s dormant refineries.

The NNPCL boss lamented that certain “powerful forces” are determined to unseat him, stressing that he remains undeterred.

“This is about the reforms we are introducing. I’m not hiding from anybody. I’m not a politician. I’ll have to learn more about politics, but this is part of a development plan for me, and I’m ready to learn,” Ojulari said.

His comments follow weeks of speculation that he had been forced to resign by the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)—claims both agencies and the Presidency have firmly denied.

Ojulari reaffirmed the company’s commitment to restoring Nigeria’s refineries to full operational capacity, adding that management was exploring the NLNG model to ensure efficiency and long-term sustainability.

Despite the threats, he vowed to see the refinery turnaround programme to the end.

Earlier, PENGASSAN President, Comrade Osifo, had expressed concern over instability within the NNPCL and the wider oil sector. In response, Ojulari assured that the company would remain focused on transparency, reforms, and repositioning the petroleum industry to meet the nation’s needs.
