According to Fabian Benjamin, JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, the decision aligns with global best practices, where underage admissions are considered rare exceptions rather than the norm.

Benjamin explained that the 85 candidates were found qualified after a thorough evaluation and have been duly notified to proceed to their respective institutions to finalize their admission process and print their official JAMB admission letters.

In the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), a total of 2,031,133 candidates applied for admission, out of which 41,027 sought consideration under the underage category.

JAMB revealed that 599 of these candidates scored at least 80 per cent in the UTME and were subjected to further assessments, including verification of school certificates and post-UTME results.

Following these procedures, 182 candidates advanced to the final stage of interviews and documentation, but only 85 successfully met all criteria and were cleared for admission.

The Board urged any of the 182 shortlisted candidates who missed the final interview for genuine reasons to submit a formal request through the JAMB Support Ticketing System under the category “2025 Underage Complaint”.

“Such complaints will be reviewed individually and handled strictly on merit,” JAMB assured.

In addition, candidates who scored 320 and above in the UTME but were disqualified for failing to upload their O-Level results have been granted a two-day grace period, ending Wednesday, October 29, 2025, to complete the process and inform the Board via the same platform.

Reaffirming its commitment to transparency, JAMB stated that its admission procedures will continue to be credible, transparent, and inclusive, while maintaining the academic standards of Nigeria’s tertiary education system.
