The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has accused former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, of circulating what he termed “blatant falsehoods” regarding a supposed tax law.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Onanuga made the claim in a post on his account, responding to a viral video in which Amaechi warned Nigerians about the potential consequences of an alleged tax policy.

In the video, Amaechi asserted that if the All Progressives Congress (APC) wins the next general election, a tax law would be implemented immediately afterward.

He stated, “By January or February next year, all of you will be in trouble if APC wins. Right after the election, APC will implement the tax law. For example, if I pay you 100 million Naira for your building materials, 25 million will automatically leave your account.”

Amaechi claimed the measure would have wide-reaching economic effects.

“If you’re a landlord building a house, you’ll add 25% to the cost to cover the tax, passing it on to buyers or tenants. Whether the tenant is a doctor or a carpenter, everyone is affected. This isn’t just about one person; it impacts the whole economy,” he explained.

He also questioned why the government had not introduced the alleged tax law before the election.

“If this is false, consult your lawyer. Ask your son if he’s a lawyer. Why isn’t Tinubu implementing it now? He’s waiting until after the election so people won’t punish him,” Amaechi said.

He urged Nigerians to be vigilant during elections, warning that the policy could impact households and livelihoods.

“This concerns your children, your ability to pay school fees. Don’t focus on me or whether you like me; it’s about your future,” he added.

‘Blatant Falsehood’ — Onanuga
Responding, Onanuga dismissed Amaechi’s statements as misleading and accused him of spreading lies about the Tax Act.

“Rotimi Amaechi is spreading egregious lies about the Tax Act. The former minister and governor has stooped low by misleading people about the law,” he wrote.

He questioned the motivation behind Amaechi’s remarks.

“Is this blatant falsehood a preview of the ADC’s campaign strategy for the 2027 election?” Onanuga asked.
