This clarification was provided on Saturday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, who explained that the statement had been widely misunderstood.

According to Olayinka, the minister’s remarks during the interview with anchor Seun Okinbaloye were not meant to suggest any form of harm. Instead, he described them as an expression of frustration, delivered through exaggeration.

He noted that Wike never intended to threaten the journalist, adding that both men had since spoken and clarified the situation.

Olayinka explained that the minister was disappointed because he holds Okinbaloye in high regard but felt the journalist’s line of questioning reflected a political bias rather than neutrality.

He further stressed that the comment was made in a hyperbolic sense and should not be interpreted literally, as it was simply meant to emphasize a point during the discussion.

The aide also pointed out that Wike clarified his statement during the live broadcast, and members of the interview panel, including Chamberlain Uzor, understood the context, noting that the moment was taken lightly by those present.

Olayinka cautioned against twisting the minister’s words for political motives, warning that taking the remark out of context would amount to a deliberate misrepresentation of facts.

He urged the public to disregard any attempts to use the comment as a tool for propaganda or blackmail, insisting that such interpretations are driven by political interests rather than reality.
