The All Progressives Congress (APC) has faulted Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde over comments he made at an opposition summit in Ibadan, accusing him of making inflammatory remarks capable of threatening peace and security.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the ruling party described Makinde’s reference to “Operation Wetie” as irresponsible and dangerous.
The APC said it was troubling that a sitting governor and chief security officer of a state would invoke a violent chapter in Nigeria’s political history.
“The APC categorically condemns Governor Makinde’s incitement as reckless, and a clear and present threat to peace and national security,” the statement read.
The party called on security and intelligence agencies to treat the matter seriously and take necessary steps to safeguard lives and property.
It warned that the governor’s remarks could encourage unrest and disorder if not addressed.
“His statement risks fueling anarchy, murderous rage and widespread lawlessness capable of undermining national stability,” the party stated.
The APC also stressed that constitutional immunity does not shield public office holders from accountability where their actions or comments could endanger national security.
It maintained that no individual, regardless of status, should make statements capable of threatening lives or destabilising democratic order.
The ruling party also rejected opposition claims that Nigeria is sliding into a one-party state, describing the narrative as false and misleading.
According to the APC, opposition parties are dealing with self-inflicted crises rooted in weak leadership, factional disputes and disregard for due process.
It specifically cited the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party and African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing them of failing to offer a credible alternative to the current administration.
Reaffirming its stance, the APC said it remains committed to deepening democratic institutions and advancing its governance agenda under President Bola Tinubu.
“Our democracy is founded on competing visions. The failure of opposition leaders to articulate alternatives is theirs, not ours,” the statement added.
