₦60 Million To Contest! NDC Unveils Presidential Form Price, Announces Primary Date
The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has unveiled its timetable for the 2027 primary elections, announcing that presidential aspirants will pay ₦60 million for the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party’s National Chairman, Moses Cleopas, disclosed the development in a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday.
According to the statement, the sale of forms is scheduled to begin from May 13 and run until May 18 as part of preparations for the party’s internal electoral process.
Cleopas explained that all aspirants would be required to participate in screening exercises with their credentials and other relevant documents.
“The sale of nomination forms will begin immediately after the screening exercise from Thursday, May 21 to Saturday, May 23, 2026, while completed forms must be returned on or before Monday, May 25,” the statement noted.
The party added that appeals arising from the screening exercise would be handled on May 25 and 26.
It further stated that primary elections for various elective positions would take place on May 27 and 28, while the presidential primary is scheduled for May 29 in Abuja.
Cleopas said aspirants for state Houses of Assembly would undergo screening in their respective states, while National Assembly and presidential aspirants would be screened at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja.
He also disclosed that all aspirants must sign an undertaking in line with the party’s code of conduct and guidelines.
The NDC announced that it would adopt the open secret ballot system for the primaries, saying the approach is intended to ensure fairness, credibility and internal democracy during the exercise.
Under the party’s approved fee structure, aspirants for state Houses of Assembly are expected to pay ₦2.5 million for both the Expression of Interest and Nomination forms.
House of Representatives aspirants will pay ₦6 million, while Senate hopefuls are expected to pay ₦8 million.
Governorship aspirants will pay ₦30 million.
For the presidential race, aspirants are required to pay ₦20 million for the Expression of Interest form and ₦40 million for the Nomination form, bringing the total cost to ₦60 million.
The party also announced special concessions for women and persons living with disabilities.
Female aspirants are expected to pay 50 per cent of the approved fees, while persons living with disabilities will pay only 25 per cent across all categories.
The NDC reiterated its commitment to conducting transparent and credible primary elections capable of producing qualified candidates for the 2027 general elections.
