Nigeria’s 2027 presidential election is gradually taking shape as major political parties unveil their candidates ahead of the January 16, 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The candidates emerged through primary elections conducted across the country, while others were selected via consensus arrangements within their respective parties.

However, the process has not been without controversy, as some aggrieved aspirants and party stakeholders have raised concerns over the conduct of primaries and nomination procedures.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier set May 30 as the deadline for political parties to conclude their primaries and resolve all disputes arising from the nomination process.

INEC also warned that any party that failed to comply with the timetable risked being disqualified from participating in the election.

This development marks a new phase in the electoral process, as political parties now shift focus to nationwide consultations, alliance building, and preparations for full-scale campaigns.

Among the presidential candidates announced so far is President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), alongside Sandy Onor of a Nyesom Wike-backed faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Former President Goodluck Jonathan emerged from a Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the PDP, while former Vice President Atiku Abubakar secured the ticket of a David Mark-led African Democratic Congress (ADC) faction.

Another faction of the ADC produced Dumebi Kachikwu as its candidate.

In other developments, the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has fielded Donald Duke, while Omoyele Sowore emerged as the candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC).

Former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi emerged as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), while Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde is the candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

Other contenders include Aliyu Bin Abbas of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim of the Accord Party, and Dr. Chibuzo Okereke of the Labour Party.

With the emergence of these candidates, political parties are expected to intensify consultations and strategic engagements ahead of the general election.

In the coming weeks, further negotiations, coalition talks, and possible legal disputes arising from contested primaries are also expected to shape the political landscape.
