Breaking: Odinkalu Slams Omo-Agege Over Double Primary Defeat In Seven Days
Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Chidi Odinkalu, has criticized former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, following his recent political setbacks.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Odinkalu noted that Omo-Agege could hardly have anticipated his present situation, especially when he was previously linked to the controversial removal of the Senate mace in 2018.
He made the comments in a post shared on his (formerly Twitter) account on Sunday.
According to him, Omo-Agege experienced a series of political defeats within a single week, including his exit from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and losses in senatorial primaries conducted in two different political parties.
Odinkalu wrote, “Leadership is voluntary, and there is no satisfaction when those who pursue it for genuine reasons are repeatedly denied. But that applies only when they seek it for the right reasons.
“When @OvieOmoAgege removed the mace of the @SenateNGR to demonstrate his loyalty and readiness to do anything for @OfficialAPCNg, he could hardly have imagined a week like the one he just experienced.”
The human rights lawyer further stated that the former Deputy Senate President had been effectively displaced within a short period.
“In one week, he has been effectively removed from the APC and has lost two Senate primaries in two different parties—one to a man and another to a woman,” he added.
“Power is transient” – Odinkalu
Odinkalu also acknowledged Omo-Agege’s earlier political influence, noting that he played a significant role in strengthening the APC’s presence in Delta State.
He described the situation as an illustration of the temporary nature of political power.
“For many who have benefited from the excesses of Nigerian politics, the current system is distributing outcomes without bias. It is a stark reminder of how fleeting political power can be,” he concluded.
