A media aide in the office of the Political Adviser to Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has been dismissed after allegedly making a Facebook post suggesting that President Bola Tinubu should resign over the country’s current challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The aide, identified as Osborne Okon, was relieved of his duties on Tuesday through a letter signed by the Political Adviser to the Governor, Godwin Ntuk Udeh.
The letter stated that his removal was based on “actions bordering on disloyalty” and the need to maintain discipline within the office.
According to the notice, his appointment was terminated with immediate effect.
“Following actions bordering on disloyalty and considering the necessity to always keep the Office of the Political Adviser purified, it has become compelling that you Mr Osborne Ubong Okon be and is hereby relieved of your engagement as a Media Aide to the Political Adviser to His Excellency the Governor, with immediate effect and from today 2nd June 2026,” the letter read.
The action followed Okon’s Facebook post in which he criticised President Bola Tinubu’s leadership.
“In a sane clime president Bola Ahmed Tinubu would’ve respectfully and honourably resigned. I’m of APC, but truth be told,” he wrote.
Tinubu is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the same party Okon claimed to belong to.
The development has attracted attention, especially as Governor Umo Eno defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC last year and pledged support for President Tinubu and the party leadership.
Reacting to his dismissal, Okon said he only became aware of the decision after being alerted by others who saw the letter circulating online.
He described the manner of his removal as “insulting” and “embarrassing.”
“I feel highly insulted and embarrassed because I do not know what the problem is,” he said.
He explained that he was informed by acquaintances and later confirmed the letter on social media.
Okon also expressed shock at the allegation of disloyalty contained in the termination letter, saying he was not aware of any issues prior to his dismissal.
He added that his working relationship with the office predates the 2023 governorship election and was based on a verbal arrangement rather than a formal appointment letter.
The former aide noted that he remained in the role despite earning a monthly stipend of ₦65,000, saying financial gain was not his motivation.
“I wasn’t working for salary. I was working for better days ahead,” he said, adding that he would have left earlier if income was his priority.
Okon further criticised the manner of his removal, saying he should have been engaged privately if there were concerns about his conduct.
Despite his sack, he maintained that he remains loyal to the APC and expressed continued support for Governor Umo Eno’s administration and re-election bid.
