The actor had earlier threatened legal action against Lere Olayinka, an aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over the alleged exposure of his personal voter data.

Olayinka had posted on that Emeka Ike recently transferred his voter registration from Imo State to the Federal Capital Territory, questioning his eligibility to contest for a House of Representatives seat in Abuja. He stated that the transfer was completed on May 15, 2026.

Following the controversy, Ike vowed to pursue legal redress over what he described as an unauthorised disclosure of his personal information.

The Force Intelligence Department–Intelligence Response Team (FID-IRT) of the Nigeria Police Force subsequently detained the INEC official involved in the leak and also invited Olayinka for questioning.

Police sources said the investigation followed a petition alleging cyber-related offences, criminal conspiracy, and the unauthorised disclosure of confidential documents containing Emeka Ike’s voter information.

According to the sources, the detained official is an Electoral Officer with INEC in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), and is being investigated over alleged improper access and release of sensitive voter registration data during a politically charged incident.

One source said the issue began on May 29, 2026, when protesters reportedly stormed the INEC AMAC office, alleging irregularities in a party primary election and blocking the office exit in the process.

It was further alleged that, following the confrontation, the Electoral Officer accessed the INEC portal, reviewed Emeka Ike’s voter registration status, and directed a subordinate to obtain a screenshot of the actor’s details from the Voter Enrolment Device.

The source added that the officer later contacted Olayinka after an initial interaction on Facebook Messenger, before continuing their conversation on WhatsApp, where the document was allegedly shared.

Another source stated that Olayinka had posted videos of the protest online and was later contacted by the INEC official, who complained that the commission was being unfairly criticised.

He reportedly confirmed receiving information from the official after being told that proof of the voter registration update would be shared.

Investigators further alleged that parts of the WhatsApp conversation were deleted after the matter became public, though forensic analysis reportedly recovered the messages.

While the INEC official remains in custody, Olayinka has been granted administrative bail after interrogation.

Confirming his invitation, Olayinka said he honoured the police summons as a law-abiding citizen but declined to provide further comments on the matter.
