2027 Battle Heats Up: Obi’s Associate Dismisses Sheriff’s Prediction On Northern Support For Peter Obi
A political associate of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi, Ibrahim Abdulkarim, has dismissed comments by former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff over Obi’s prospects in the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Sheriff had reportedly argued that Northern voters would not support Obi because of actions allegedly taken during his tenure as governor of Anambra State. He accused the former governor of driving Northerners out of the state while in office.
Responding in a post on social media, Abdulkarim rejected the claims, insisting that attempts to portray Obi through an ethnic lens would not influence the outcome of the 2027 election.
He maintained that Obi’s handling of security challenges during his time as governor should be judged on its merits rather than what he described as narratives rooted in ethnic sentiment.
Abdulkarim also questioned Sheriff’s political record, raising issues about the former governor’s past and controversies linked to his time in public office.
“It is painful to watch. Many of the people he referenced, including those who have suffered injuries in the course of insecurity, are supporting Peter Obi for president. Are we missing something?” Abdulkarim wrote.
He added, “How can someone from Borno State, where Boko Haram began its insurgency and continues to carry out kidnappings and killings, make such allegations against a man who confronted criminality while serving as governor of Anambra? What was Ali Modu Sheriff’s business before politics? How many EFCC cases does he have?”
Abdulkarim further accused some members of the political elite of attempting to exploit ethnic divisions for political gain.
“The elites are fighting hard to use their usual tribal sentiments to continue plunging our country into chaos in the name of unity while enabling looting and poor governance. It will not work. This is 2027, not 1966. We will end this pattern and elect Peter Obi to help heal the nation,” he stated.
He also criticised the focus on ethnic issues instead of governance, saying, “We are talking about ₦8.8 trillion allegedly missing and a ghost government agency, yet the conversation is being shifted to Biafra so that looting and the trafficking of drugs and weapons can continue.”
