2027 Tensions Rise As Senator Umeh Accuses Sheriff Of Fueling Anti-Obi Sentiment
Senator Victor Umeh has accused former Borno State Governor Ali Modu Sheriff of attempting to turn Northern voters against Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 general election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Umeh made the allegation while responding to comments made by Sheriff during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where the former governor argued that Obi would struggle to secure votes in Northern Nigeria because he is “divisive.”
Sheriff also claimed that Obi drove Northerners out of Anambra State during his tenure as governor.
Reacting during the programme on Tuesday, Umeh dismissed the remarks, alleging that Sheriff was trying to create negative sentiment against the former Anambra governor.
According to the senator, anyone suggesting that the North would reject Obi was encouraging political division rather than allowing voters to make independent decisions.
Umeh described Obi as a peaceful leader committed to national unity and democratic governance, saying the former Labour Party presidential candidate has consistently advocated non-violence and constructive engagement.
He also defended Obi’s recent call for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to step down if he could no longer guarantee the safety of Nigerians, arguing that the former presidential candidate was exercising his democratic right to hold the government accountable.
The lawmaker maintained that every opposition leader has the right to criticise the government’s performance, particularly on issues affecting citizens.
According to Umeh, the Tinubu administration has yet to adequately address growing insecurity, economic hardship and the rising cost of petrol, adding that such concerns remain legitimate subjects of public debate.
