The nomination of former Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, for a ministerial role by President Bola Tinubu has received praise from professionals in the Niger Delta’s oil and gas sector. A statement released on Sunday, signed by their leader Soki Etebu, conveyed their commendation.

President Tinubu recently made adjustments to the list of ministerial nominees submitted for Senate screening and confirmation. Festus Keyamo’s name was included, alongside Mariya Mahmoud, while the nomination of Maryam Shetty was withdrawn.

The professionals expressed their optimism that Festus Keyamo would be appointed as the Minister of Petroleum, a move they view as fulfilling President Tinubu’s commitment to Niger Delta activists, who had requested an appointee from the region to oversee the crude oil sector.

The statement further elaborated, “Festus Keyamo is exceptionally qualified for this role; his legal background, Niger Delta origin, advocacy for the region, and his ability to manage and lead make him an ideal candidate to facilitate growth and advancement in the sector.”

Acknowledging Keyamo’s suitability for the position, the professionals emphasized his comprehensive knowledge and readiness to undertake reforms, manage sectoral changes, and oversee the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act.

Expressing their confidence in Keyamo, the group characterized him as diligent, resolute, well-informed, and prepared to excel in the ministry. They appealed to the Senate to collaborate with President Tinubu in expeditiously screening Festus Keyamo for the ministerial role.
