They stressed the need for the government to swiftly devise a more cost-effective and mutually beneficial post-subsidy policy to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians and prevent further economic hardship.
In a virtual conference led by Professor Samuel Odewumi, a renowned expert in Transport and Logistics and former Dean of LASU’s School of Transport and Logistics (LASUSOTAL), these experts advised the Nigerian government to shift its focus away from the current hasty and ineffective palliative measures.
Instead, they proposed policies aimed at reducing transportation and energy costs, ensuring that the removal of the fuel subsidy does not impose excessive burdens on citizens.
Furthermore, the experts urged the Federal Government to consider subsidizing fertilizers for farmers, providing crude oil to local refineries, and offering tax relief to manufacturers as part of comprehensive measures to support various sectors of the economy.
