Abbo clarified that Akpabio had sworn by his mother’s grave that he had no involvement in the Appeal Court’s ruling that led to his removal.
During an interview on Arise Television, Abbo issued an apology to the Senate President. On Monday, the Abuja division of the Court of Appeal invalidated Abbo’s election, declaring the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Amos Yohanna, as the winner of the February 25 senatorial election.
Initially, Abbo had linked his removal to Akpabio, suggesting that the Senate President sought retribution against those who opposed his rise to power. However, Akpabio distanced himself from the Appellate Court’s decision that removed Abbo.
Abbo explained, “I have to say this with all due humility and responsibility that the press release we issued yesterday was premature and based on the information available to us at that time.
As of today, we have learned more, and last night, I had a conversation with the Senate President, and I am convinced that he was not involved.”
Quoting Akpabio, Abbo mentioned, “I swear by my mother’s grave that I’m not involved; I don’t even know that you’re in court.”
He further stated, “For the number three citizen to declare to me that he has sworn on his mother’s grave, a woman he deeply cares for, a woman who raised him after he lost his father at the age of six, I cannot see a reason why he would deceive.”
